I’ve liked all of Pixar’s films (even Cars) and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Brad Bird’s films. I hope he does more work with Pixar, because Ratatouille and The Incredibles are definitely among the best films to come out of Pixar. That said, I don’t think either of them top The Iron Giant, and Ratatouille much more than the others seemed very formulaic in its plot despite its imaginativeness in every other regard. Also, I wonder how children react to the chase scenes. There is an awful lot of excitement and noise during the scenes (I thought of the James Bond film I saw last night when Skinner chases Remy around the streets of Paris).
Probably my favorite scene was when Remy first runs around the kitchen in a mad fury trying to escape death. It’s quite something to see a fine French restaurant kitchen from a rat’s perspective.
